In 2011, attempting to become ‘king of the world!’, Clive Palmer made sub-editors everywhere jump for joy when he declared that, yes, he was building Titanic II—a modern day replica of the ill-fated Olympic-class RMS Titanic. Palmer’s new ship (if built) will closely resemble the original model with mahogany ballrooms, service elevators, crystal chandeliers, air conditioning…and extra lifeboats.
Read on as Lewis Fidock and Isabelle Sully rewrite James Cameron’s tragic romance classic with unexpected subsidiary characters. Joining Clive on this calamitously slapstick fool’s gold (diamond) empire/outlaw story/errand/epic is Jan Petrus du Plessis, the South African-born Chairman of Rio Tinto Group, and Biao Ge, the man tasked with building Palmer’s big boat.
We look forward to Heart of the Ocean’s sequel, Jurassic Park: Coolum Resort, in which Palmer’s Queensland dinosaur-themed park comes to life, literally.
Lewis Fidock and Isabelle Sully both completed their Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2013. In 2014 they collaborated on the 7 vs 9 exhibition at West Space.
